An outside scholarship is any amount of college scholarship funding that does not come from the educational institution itself. The money may come from an individual fund, a nonprofit or a for-profit company. Students typically apply for outside scholarships with their academic and extracurricular records, personal essays, teacher recommendations and/or in-person interviews.
